The pre-milling unit is the first station on an edgebander and the one that decides the quality of the finished joint. Its job is to trim the raw board edge square, flat and burr-free so the banding has a clean surface to bond to.
This range covers the four sizes that fit most European edgebanders: 100 x 34 mm and 100 x 48 mm with Z3+3 edges, 100 x 48 mm with Z2+2 edges, and 85 x 45 mm with Z3+3 edges — all on a 30 mm bore.

Z2+2 or Z3+3

Z2+2 means two left-hand and two right-hand cutting edges; Z3+3 means three of each. More edges give a higher feed rate and a smoother cut per revolution, at a higher price per head. Most machines specify one or the other; the machine manual or the part number on the existing head decides it.

Which LEUCO number maps to which size

100x34 Z3+3 corresponds to LEUCO 181152 (right) and 181153 (left), used on IMA and Brandt. 100x48 Z3+3 corresponds to 181154/181155 for IMA, Brandt and SCM-IDM. 85x45 Z3+3 corresponds to 181165/181166 for OTT. 100x48 Z2+2 corresponds to 181516/181517 for HOLZ-HER and SCM. 100x63 Z2+2 corresponds to 181518/181519, and 100x63 Z3+3 covers Brandt 182175/182176 and SCM 182393/182392.

Installation and wear

The head seats on the spindle, so the bore and any keyway must match exactly. Rotation direction is fixed by the machine; a left-hand head on a right-hand spindle will not cut. In service, the head is replaced when the edge starts showing tear-out on the panel face — the PCD tips themselves rarely break, they wear at the corner where they meet the laminate.
On an edgebander the pre-milling head is a wear part with a service life measured in metres of board, not in months.

Frequently asked questions

Does this cutter fit my edgebander?
The bore is 30 mm and the machines it is built for are IMA, Brandt, SCM-IDM, OTT, HOLZ-HER, SCM. Four values decide the fit — outer diameter, height, bore and Z layout — and the machine brand narrows the choice without replacing the measurement. Check the bore and the keyway against your spindle before ordering.
Is it a direct replacement for the OEM part number?
Send the part number engraved on the existing head together with the machine make and model, and the specification is cross-referenced against it.
What happens when the cutting edges dull?
A dull head shows up first as a rougher edge, then as a glue line that opens on every panel. Deal with it on condition rather than on a fixed calendar, because the wear rate depends on the panel material and the feed rate.
Which panels does it cut cleanly?
Its application is chip-free jointing and rabbeting of melamine, paper and HPL laminated panels. The requirement in every case is the same: no chipping on the top and bottom face, because the banding covers the edge and not the face. Feed rate, spindle speed and cutter condition all have to match for that to hold.
